Matt Goias always has his hands in somethin. If you’ve been missing his old Sexytime Explosion column, it’s time to catch up with the casanova’s latest ventures, this time in progressive promotions, seducing masses of nightlife wanderers to the newest it-spot: the Bench. It goes down every Saturday night at the bench on East Houston and Orchard, where people gather, plant themselves, and let the night’s attractions come to them. Not really a new idea, since homeless men and unemployed stoop-sitters been kickin’ it curb-side for years, but as an alternative to ridiculously expensive bars that never fail to disappoint, the Bench comes through for those weary of covers and dress codes.
It also raises all these existential questions, like, is this art? And, isn’t a non-scene just another kind of scene? But most importantly, why pay 8 bucks for a teaspoon of vodka tonic when you can slurp margaritas out of foam cups and yell at people on the street–for free? See you on Saturday.
